With respect to pets, drowning in backyard pools is more prevalent than one might suspect. It is documented by veterinarians across the country that thousands of pets drown each year. Often, pets are alone around a pool in the backyard and one of several things can happen. They intentionally get into the pool, they slip and fall in while playing or they are scared by another animal and fall into the pool. Although pets can swim, they may not know how to get out of the pool and they swim until they are exhausted. Older pets with medical issues are especially vulnerable.
Splash!!!
. . . This is the happy sound of children and dogs jumping in the pool on a hot summer day. Swimming pools are great fun, but, unfortunately, they also can be the place of a tragic drowning if safety precautions are ignored.
